JOB DESCRIPTION: SENIOR LITIGATION PARALEGAL/ASISTANT
Position Type: Full-time, non-exempt Reports to: Managing Partner
Position Summary
This position requires a professional, organized self-starter with 5+ years of plaintiff personal injury litigation experience. Trial experience is a must. The ability to work individually, a proactive work ethic, the ability to anticipate needs, decisiveness, attention to detail, a flexible schedule, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging legal environment are just a few of the requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work collaboratively as a team are also necessary. On a day-to-day basis, this position works primarily under the direction of an assigned group of Attorneys and/or Paralegals to most effectively and efficiently meet Firm/client needs.
The Senior Litigation Paralegal/Assistant will handle multiple voluminous cases in state and federal court. Position will assist in all aspects of the litigation process, including providing support for attorneys in discovery, motion practice, as well as hearings, mediations, trials, and arbitrations. They serve as a liaison with many internal and external parties including clients, attorneys, paralegals, support staff, experts, insurers, medical offices and the courts.
Essential Functions:
Thorough knowledge of a plaintiff personal injury litigation practice including an understanding and knowledge of court practices, requirements, and deadlines in both state and federal courts.
Thorough knowledge of insurance claims process requirements.
Assist attorneys with scheduling and calendaring.
Ability to take a new case from file to trial.
Prepare legal documents including petitions, answers, discovery, motions, pre-trial motions, legal memorandum, waivers, memos, case briefs, request medical records, settlements, and client correspondence.
Compile deposition and trial notebooks, client interviews, pleadings, motions, pre-trial motions, depositions, investigation, mediation settlements, and familiarity with all discovery phases, including answers and responses to interrogatories, production, disclosures, and requests for admissions.
Communicate with medical providers and lienholders.
Responsible for proofreading and correctly formatting all materials.
Provide assistance to other Paralegals within assigned teams whenever necessary to meet Firm and client needs.
Organize and prioritize workload so as to most efficiently enable and facilitate team effort to accomplish Firm and client goals.
Exhibit professionalism by recognizing and adhering to all Firm policies, including attendance guidelines, dress code, security measures, and confidentiality requirements.
The ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Customer-service oriented.
Advanced knowledge of Louisiana Court systems.
Intermediate knowledge of Louisiana law.
Basic knowledge of the Louisiana Civil Code.
Ability to navigate various federal, state and parish records, forms and websites.
General computer competency and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, including Bates labeling, splitting and combining PDF documents, optimizing and reducing PDF files,
Advanced knowledge of e-filing systems and procedures in state and federal courts.
Knowledge of case management software such as Smokeball is a plus.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize in an environment with shifting time frames.
Supervisory Responsibility
The Senior Paralegal directs and oversees the tasks of junior paralegals and law clerks, if applicable.

This job is located in a professional office environment.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role, requiring use of typical office equipment such as a computer, printer, scanner/copier and phone.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, Paralegal Certificate and/or equivalent number of years of relevant experience.
Bi-Lingual Spanish (Native Speaker).
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Notary Commission preferred.
Corel WordPerfect experience an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $45,000.00 – $65,500.00 per year
