Overview

Safety & Compliance Manager — Drayage & Intermodal Jobs in Wilmington, CA at Trans International Trucking, Inc.

About us

Trans International Trucking is an asset-based drayage and linehaul carrier. We run 150 trucks and move 25,000 containers a year out of the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, with terminals in Norfolk, Savannah, Charleston, Houston, and Dallas. We own our equipment — including a 250-unit private chassis fleet in LA.

We also build our own software. Our fleet and transportation management platforms are developed in-house.

The role

In this role you will be responsible for keeping our drivers DOT compliant and keeping our equipment roadworthy while maintain costs controlled. You are the final approval on driver qualification, the owner of our BIT and preventive maintenance program, and the person accountable for us passing a DOT audit on any given day.

It is a hands-on, high-autonomy role with direct access to ownership.

What you’ll own

Equipment and maintenance

  • Equipment records across tractors, chassis, and trailers — registration, plates, assignment, and status
  • The BIT program and annual DOT inspections, including terminal readiness for CHP
  • Preventive maintenance scheduling, work orders, repair coordination, and downtime tracking
  • Larger events — rebuilds and accident repairs — coordinated across vendors and insurance

Cost and vendors

  • Vendor relationships
  • Invoice review, audit, and approval — you catch what doesn’t match the work authorized
  • Cost per unit and total fleet cost, reported to leadership monthly

Drivers and documents

  • Final approval on every driver qualification file — MVR, PSP, medical card, insurance clearance
  • Expirations and renewals: medical cards, CDLs, TWIC, endorsements.
  • New driver orientation, safety meetings, and ongoing training

Safety performance and audit

  • CSA scores as a real KPI — BASIC monitoring, driver coaching, corrective action plans, and DataQ challenges
  • Accident reporting, root cause review
  • DOT audit readiness year-round.

Experience

  • 5+ years in trucking safety and compliance — drayage, port, or intermodal strongly preferred
  • You know 49 CFR Parts 391, 395, and 396 without looking them up
  • You’ve run a California BIT program through a CHP terminal inspection
  • You’ve led a DOT compliance review and come out clean
  • You can audit a repair invoice line by line and defend the findings
  • Comfortable in TMS, fleet management, and ELD software — and quick on proprietary systems

Preferred, though not required for consideration

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • CDS or NATMI certification
  • Private chassis fleet experience
  • Workers’ comp and Cal/OSHA administration

What we offer

  • $75,000–$90,000 depending on experience

  • Paid time off and holidays
