Legal Innovation Manager
Position Overview
A leading law firm is seeking a Legal Innovation Manager to help drive the firm’s strategic adoption of AI, legal technology, workflow automation, and knowledge management initiatives. This role will work closely with attorneys, practice groups, IT, knowledge management, and operations teams to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, modernize legal workflows, and enhance client service delivery through technology-enabled solutions.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of legal practice operations, emerging AI tools, legal technology platforms, and process improvement methodologies. This individual should possess a blend of product thinking, project management, workflow design, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate attorney and business needs into scalable solutions.
This is a highly collaborative, cross-functional role suited for someone passionate about the future of legal services and operational innovation within a sophisticated law firm environment.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Technology & AI Implementation
- Evaluate, implement, and support legal technology and AI tools across the firm.
- Assist in deploying generative AI solutions and workflow automation initiatives that improve attorney productivity and operational efficiency.
- Monitor developments in legal AI, automation, and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities for strategic adoption.
- Partner with IT and vendors on integrations, testing, rollouts, and user adoption initiatives.
Workflow Optimization & Process Improvement
- Analyze existing legal and business workflows to identify inefficiencies and automation opportunities.
- Design and implement scalable processes that improve knowledge sharing, matter management, drafting workflows, and operational execution.
- Collaborate with practice groups to streamline legal service delivery through technology and process redesign.
- Assist in developing standardized workflows, templates, and automation protocols.
Knowledge Management & Product Development
- Support the firm’s knowledge management initiatives, including document systems, precedent management, search optimization, and internal knowledge tools.
- Work closely with attorneys and business teams to develop internal-facing and client-facing legal solutions.
- Contribute to product development initiatives involving AI-enabled legal services, automation tools, and innovation platforms.
- Gather user feedback and translate business requirements into practical product and workflow enhancements.
Change Management & Training
- Help drive attorney and staff adoption of new technologies and innovation initiatives.
- Develop and deliver training materials, workshops, and best-practice resources related to AI and legal technology.
- Serve as a resource for attorneys and business professionals on technology-enabled workflows and process improvements.
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the firm.
Project Management & Collaboration
- Manage multiple innovation and technology initiatives simultaneously across practice groups and business units.
- Coordinate with vendors, consultants, IT teams, and internal stakeholders on project execution.
- Track implementation timelines, adoption metrics, and project outcomes.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and recommendations for firm leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD or advanced degree preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in legal innovation, legal technology, knowledge management, legal operations, or related fields.
- Prior experience within a law firm, legaltech company, consulting firm, or professional services environment strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with generative AI tools, legal research platforms, workflow automation software, and knowledge management systems.
- Strong understanding of legal workflows and attorney-facing operational challenges.
- Experience working with legal technology platforms such as iManage, Relativity, Litera, Harvey, Microsoft Copilot, NetDocuments, HighQ, Contract Express, or similar tools is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with process mapping, automation tools, or low-code/no-code platforms.
- Product management or legal solutions development experience.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI governance, or enterprise AI adoption strategies.
- Understanding of data management, document automation, and information governance principles.
- Experience supporting large-scale technology rollouts and user adoption initiatives.
