The Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder’s Office seeks a Motor Vehicle Deputy Clerk. The Motor Vehicle Department is responsible for the accurate titling and registration of all vehicles in Chaffee County. Under general supervision, the Motor Vehicle Deputy Clerk carries out a variety of clerical and customer service tasks, ensuring compliance with state statutes and mandates that govern motor vehicle regulations for the accurate titling and registration of vehicles in Chaffee County. This position will be based in the Salida Branch, but the worker may occasionally be required to work in the Buena Vista branch. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of office administration experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Motor Vehicle Deputy Clerk carries out a variety of clerical and customer service tasks, ensuring compliance with state statutes and mandates that govern motor vehicle regulations for the accurate titling and registration of vehicles in Chaffee County. This position will be based in the Salida branch, but the worker may occasionally be required to work in the Buena Vista branch.
In the event of an local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster, County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures compliance with state statutes and regulations, as well as Clerk and Recorder processes and policies for areas of responsibility.
Assists the public with vehicle title and registration procedures by asking appropriate questions to determine the best course of action.
Assists the public in person, via email, and phone by providing information that requires the interpretation of state statutes and rules regulations.
Demonstrates skillful public relations when working with the public.
Balances the cash drawer daily.
Processes mail and mortgage documents.
Assists with special projects.
Participates in regular meetings with the team and supervisor, contributing positive, solution-oriented ideas, addressing concerns, and celebrating team successes.
Demonstrates the values of the Clerk and Recorder’s office, including bringing forth ideas to enhance values such as equity and inclusion, service, stewardship, collaboration, accountability, integrity, alignment, and teaming.
Additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, phone, printer, fax machine, calculator, scanner, cash register, and postage machine.
Demonstrate an interest and ability to learn other software systems.
Demonstrates strong commitment to punctuality and dependability by consistently arriving on time and being prepared for work.
Ability to adapt to schedule changes and work overtime as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent
2+ years of office administration experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work with computers for significant amounts of time.
Ability to conduct activities involving approximately 60% standing and 40% sitting.
Ability to lift and/or carry burdens weighing up to 40 lbs.
Ability to grasp and manipulate office equipment, hand tools, and similar other tools and materials.
Ability to conduct activities involving stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, twisting, and reaching on a moderate basis.
Ability to participate in routine conversation in person or via telephone, and distinguish telephones, radio/pager signals, printers, computers and other auditory tones.
Ability to distinguish small objects at near and far distances in conditions of bright or low light.
Ability to distinguish depth and see objects in a wide field of vision.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The majority of this position’s duties are performed within an indoor environment. The employee may be exposed to noise, mechanical and electrical, and other related hazards associated with an office environment.
