POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced lawyer to lead our Global Marketing/Digital & Regulatory Legal Center of Excellence (COE) for our global company. This role will support global marketing, digital, regulatory and claims substantiation, and litigation for the company globally. The ideal candidate will have worked in-house supporting marketing and digital teams in the CPG and a deep understanding of the legal landscape related to marketing, digital, and regulatory matters, with experience managing litigation. This position involves leading a small team of lawyers.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Scope: You will be responsible for managing the legal work for the Global Marketing and Digital teams, overall management of Wella Company’s litigation, and working with our marketing, regulatory and R&D functions on regulatory and claims matters. This includes:
Lead legal support and guidance on 360 global marketing campaigns, launches, and programs, and company-wide digital/IT initiatives.
Provide strategic legal guidance on digital strategy, including digital marketing, e-commerce, social media, and data privacy.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, IT, digital, regulatory, and product development, to provide legal advice and support.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to marketing, digital, IT and regulatory activities, in close partnership with the procurement team.
Lead and provide strategic guidance on complex litigation related to product liability, class actions and regulatory issues globally, including experience selecting counsel, managing budgeting and accrual in partnership with Finance and working with a global communications team.
Advise on regulatory matters, including advertising materials, product claims substantiation, labelling, and packaging requirements.
Monitor and analyse legal developments and trends in the beauty industry to provide proactive legal advice and risk mitigation strategies.
Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with global marketing, digital, and regulatory requirements.
Provide training and education to internal teams on legal and regulatory matters related to marketing and digital initiatives.
Partnership Development: Actively participate at the Wella business leadership team level, contributing to the business strategy and goals with creative solutions, while mitigating wider risk.
Strategic Development: Collaborate in shaping the overall strategy of the Wella Legal team, ensuring alignment with Wella business objectives.
Process Optimization: Implement best practice process, agreements and policies to mitigate and manage risk and to enhance the speed and simplicity of legal operations; manage the external spend in your areas of coverage
Leadership and Mentorship: Be active member of Legal Team Leadership Team supporting the Wella Company Legal Team strategy and Legal Guiding Principles. Lead and mentor other members of the Wella Legal team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Legal Support: Provide strategic legal advice and support to business lines, ensuring compliance and mitigating risks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various teams to develop and implement effective legal policies and procedures.
Training and Development: Develop and implement training initiatives to educate staff on legal processes and best practices.
QUALIFIATIONS:
Minimum of 15-20 years of legal experience, with a focus on marketing, digital, regulatory, and litigation matters, with at least 5-10 years in-house experience at global consumer business. Experience in beauty industry a plus. Title and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Extensive experience in providing legal support to global and digital marketing teams, including digital marketing, social media, and data privacy.
Strong knowledge of global marketing and advertising laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Experience managing outside counsel in complex litigation and navigating insurance coverage
Experience with claims substantiation, product labelling, and packaging requirements.
Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a global business environment and to partner with the business
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Ability to execute in a complex matrixed geographically dispersed environment
Exceptional business and legal issue identification with practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced environment, with desire to build and simplify processes, contracts etc. to facilitate easier execution
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively to solve complex legal challenges, and execute with agility
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with exceptional academic credentials; active bar membership in good standing.
We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, skills and in comparison to internal incumbents currently in similar roles—pay Range: $250,000 – $340,000 salary per year plus bonus. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
