We are currently supporting a leading international renewable energy developer in the search for a Senior Legal Counsel to join its growing offshore wind team in Japan.
This is a key senior-level role within a highly strategic energy transition platform, focused on the development, construction, and long-term operation of large-scale offshore wind projects.
You will act as a core legal advisor across the full project lifecycle, supporting cross-border transactions and complex infrastructure development in one of the fastest-growing offshore wind markets globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support across offshore wind project development in Japan
- Advise on and negotiate complex EPC, supply, and construction contracts
- Support joint ventures, consortium structures, and project development arrangements
- Work closely on project finance documentation and lender negotiations
- Advise on regulatory frameworks, permitting, and offshore wind auction processes in Japan
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders across development, engineering, procurement, and finance teams
- Manage external counsel across multi-jurisdictional matters
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly experienced legal professional with a strong background in energy infrastructure, ideally with exposure to offshore wind or large-scale renewable energy projects.
You will likely bring:
- Qualified lawyer with strong international legal training
- Significant experience in project finance, infrastructure, energy, or construction law
- Exposure to EPC contracts, procurement structures, and large-scale energy projects
- Experience working in a law firm or in-house within energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors
- Strong commercial mindset and ability to work in cross-functional project teams
- International experience and strong English drafting/negotiation skills
- Exposure to or interest in the Japanese energy market is highly advantageous
