Position Overview
A global leader in construction and infrastructure technology is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its organization in the Greater Chicago area. The company supports major infrastructure projects worldwide and partners with government authorities, asset owners, construction companies, and engineering/design organizations.
This highly visible role will partner closely with management, sales, and operations teams, providing legal guidance across commercial and construction matters. The Senior Legal Counsel will have significant responsibility for complex contract negotiations, construction projects, claims, disputes, compliance, and other corporate legal matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial and construction contracts.
- Provide legal guidance throughout the execution of major construction projects.
- Manage and advise on customer and supplier disputes, claims, and insurance matters.
- Draft and negotiate change orders, requests for additional compensation, and other project-related contractual matters.
- Develop and implement contracting and compliance guidelines.
- Draft general terms and conditions and other commercial agreements.
- Research and analyze legal and regulatory matters.
- Provide legal training and guidance to Sales and Operations teams.
- Advise on compliance, safety, corporate, insurance, intellectual property, and other commercial matters.
- Collaborate with an international legal team and provide support across multiple jurisdictions as needed.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional legal experience, with a strong background in the construction industry.
- Law degree from an accredited law school.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex contracts.
- Knowledge of construction law, commercial agreements, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Experience utilizing AI tools for legal research or related legal work.
- Strong communication, negotiation, critical-thinking, and project-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with an international legal team.
- Ability to work effectively across different time zones.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion.
