Join our team and help empower small and medium enterprises with seamless banking solutions. SME Bank is looking for an experienced and qualified Senior Legal Counsel to join our legal team. This person will provide expert legal advice to business units and management, actively contribute to drafting legal documents, and help ensure the bank’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
What you will do:
- Provide legal advice to business units and management on various banking operations matters.
- Actively participate in the development and refinement of banking products and services, providing legal input on new initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, ensuring they protect the bank’s interests and comply with legal requirements.
- Draft and review internal bank policies and procedures, keeping documents assigned to you updated in a timely manner.
- Support the bank’s engagement with regulatory authorities (e.g., Bank of Lithuania) and assist in handling disputes or regulatory inquiries.
- Coordinate with and help manage external legal counsel when needed for more complex matters.
- Identify and help manage legal risk across various bank processes.
- Mentor and support junior members of the legal team.
What you need to succeed:
- Master’s degree in law.
- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience (experience in the banking or financial services sector would be advantage).
- Strong knowledge of banking law, regulatory requirements, and corporate law.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Lithuanian and English.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex legal matters in a dynamic environment.
- Proven track record of collaborating with management and cross-functional teams.
- Bonus: experience engaging directly with financial regulators and/or involvement in scaling financial products across European markets.
