Our client is a fast-growing global technology business with a substantial international footprint and a highly collaborative legal function that we have helped to build.
This is an opportunity to join a commercially focused legal team working closely with People & Culture, senior leadership and operational stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
The Role
The Senior Legal Counsel will provide high-quality legal support, with a particular focus on European employment issues.
The role will be based in Barcelona and will suit a Spanish-qualified lawyer with strong technical employment law expertise, excellent judgement and the ability to work confidently in both Spanish and English.
This is a hands-on advisory role requiring clear written communication, commercial pragmatism and the ability to manage employment law matters across different jurisdictions.
Experience advising on employment law issues across Europe, including France, Spain, Germany, the UK and the Baltic states, will be highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for:
- Advising on a broad range of employment and labour law matters, including employee relations, workplace policies, disciplinary matters, terminations, restructures, employment contracts and internal investigations.
- Providing practical legal support to the People & Culture team and business stakeholders across Spain and other European jurisdictions.
- Supporting cross-border employment law projects, including policy harmonisation, workforce changes and compliance initiatives.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating employment-related documentation, including contracts, settlement agreements, policies, correspondence and internal guidance.
- Managing or coordinating external counsel where specialist local advice is required.
- Advising on legal risk in a clear, practical and commercially balanced way.
- Keeping the business informed of relevant employment law developments across key jurisdictions.
- Supporting the legal team on broader commercial, compliance or corporate matters where required.
Required Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Law degree and qualification as a lawyer in Spain.
- Strong experience advising on employment and labour law matters.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Excellent written communication skills in both Spanish and English.
- The ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to work with senior internal clients.
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to operate effectively in an international, fast-paced business environment.
Highly Regarded Experience
The following experience will be advantageous:
- Experience advising on employment law matters across multiple European jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with employment law issues across the EMEA region.
- Experience working in-house, on secondment or closely with technology, SaaS or high-growth international businesses.
- Experience supporting cross-border HR, employee relations or restructuring projects.
- Strong understanding of how to manage local counsel across different jurisdictions.
