Senior Employment Law Attorney – 7+ Years Experience Jobs in Valley Village, CA at AlderLaw, PC

About Alder Law

Alder Law is a growing California plaintiff-side litigation firm known for high-impact advocacy, strong litigation and trial preparation, and a culture that values professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and results.

Our Employment Law practice continues to expand, and we are seeking a seasoned Senior Employment Law Attorney to join the team. This is a hands-on litigation role for an experienced attorney who can independently manage complex employment matters, contribute at a high strategic level, and help strengthen the firm’s growing employment practice without assuming responsibility for serving as Head of the Department.

Position Summary

We are seeking a California-licensed attorney with 7+ years of recent, substantive California employment law litigation experience as a licensed and practicing attorney. The ideal candidate has significant plaintiff-side experience and is capable of independently handling complex employment cases in California state and federal courts from intake through resolution, including trial when appropriate.

This position is designed for a senior litigator who wants meaningful case ownership and sophisticated work while collaborating with the firm’s Employment Law team. The attorney should be comfortable developing strategy, taking and defending depositions, handling substantial law and motion practice, appearing in court, conducting mediations and settlement negotiations, preparing cases for trial, and providing guidance to more junior team members when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage an active caseload of complex plaintiff-side employment matters from intake through settlement, trial, and, when appropriate, appeal
  • Develop litigation strategy, case plans, valuation, and recommendations throughout the life of each matter
  • Draft and respond to complaints, pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, and other substantive litigation documents
  • Manage written discovery, meet-and-confer efforts, discovery disputes, and motions to compel
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, PMQ/PMK witnesses, and experts
  • Prepare and argue significant motions, including motions for summary judgment and summary adjudication
  • Appear in California state and federal courts for hearings, conferences, and other proceedings
  • Lead mediation preparation, settlement conferences, and high-level settlement negotiations
  • Evaluate liability, damages, evidence, witness credibility, litigation risk, and settlement opportunities
  • Prepare matters for trial and actively participate in trial strategy and execution
  • Maintain direct and professional communication with clients throughout the litigation process
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure cases move efficiently and deadlines are met
  • Provide substantive guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys and staff as appropriate

Employment Law Experience

Candidates should have substantial, recent experience handling California employment claims involving several of the following areas:

  • Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation under FEHA
  • Wrongful termination
  • Disability discrimination, reasonable accommodation, and interactive process claims
  • Wage and hour violations
  • California Labor Code claims
  • FLSA claims
  • PAGA matters
  • Class and representative actions

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active membership and good standing with the State Bar of California
  • Minimum of 7 years of recent California employment law litigation experience as a licensed and practicing attorney
  • Substantial experience litigating employment matters in California state and federal courts
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage employment cases through all phases of litigation
  • Significant experience with written discovery, depositions, law and motion, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Strong command of FEHA, California wage and hour law, and applicable California Labor Code provisions
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, writing, oral advocacy, and client communication skills
  • Strong strategic judgment and the ability to assess liability, damages, case value, and litigation risk
  • Ability to manage deadlines and a substantial caseload with limited day-to-day supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant plaintiff-side employment litigation experience
  • PAGA, wage and hour, and employment class action experience
  • First-chair or substantial trial experience
  • Experience defeating or successfully litigating dispositive motions
  • Experience handling high-value or complex employment cases
  • Experience mentoring junior attorneys or supervising litigation work
  • Federal court employment litigation and appellate experience

Who Will Be Successful Here

We are looking for a confident, strategic, experienced litigator who can step into active cases and immediately add value. The successful candidate will know how to move a case forward, make sound litigation recommendations, communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel, and determine when a case should be resolved versus aggressively litigated toward trial.

This role is particularly well suited for an accomplished senior attorney who wants to remain actively involved in litigation and trial work while contributing experience and mentorship to a growing Employment Law team – without taking on the administrative responsibilities of running the department.

Compensation

Base Salary: $225,000-$300,000 annually, commensurate with experience, demonstrated employment litigation capabilities, trial experience, and other job-related qualifications.
