This is a hybrid position based in our San Francisco, CA headquarters. You will be expected in office 3 days per week typically Tuesday-Thursday. Note, time in office can vary depending on business needs.

About the Job

The Senior Counsel, Employment Law, will play a central role in protecting and building this legacy. With a focus on the United States and Canada, the Senior Counsel, Employment Law will provide expert legal advice and counsel on all aspects of employment law, including labor relations, employee relations, workplace policies, and compliance. The role requires a proactive, solutions-oriented attorney with deep knowledge of federal, state, and

local employment

laws, particularly in the retail sector, and the ability to navigate complex legal challenges in a

Act as legal advisor on labor and employment matters for HR, and business leaders on employment-related matters, including hiring, firing, discipline, compensation, benefits,

diversity and inclusion

, workplace harassment, discrimination, and accommodation issues.

Partner with HR and business leaders to advise on appropriate actions to resolve and proactively address employment concerns and disputes.

Oversee and manage employment-related litigation, including disputes related to wrongful termination, wage and hour claims, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and class action lawsuits. Work closely with outside counsel when necessary to manage and resolve litigation.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Provide guidance on wage and hour issues, employee classification, and other employment-related compliance matters. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks.

Draft, review, and update employment policies, employee handbooks, and other internal documents to ensure compliance with evolving legal requirements and to reflect best practices in the retail industry.

Develop and deliver training programs for HR, management, and employees on topics such as harassment

prevention

, employee rights, and

legal compliance

. Educate internal stakeholders on employment law updates and best practices.

Lead or advise on internal investigations into claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other workplace issues. Recommend corrective actions when necessary and ensure that investigations are conducted fairly and in accordance with company policies.

Collaborate with the Employee Health & Safety function to support OSHA compliance and mitigate workplace health and safety risks.

Act as supervisor of administrative and EEOC complaint responses.

Support the Company’s “profits through principles” philosophy.

About You

7+ years of relevant experience.

Ability to work and make sound decisions independently, proactively and strategically, and to provide reasoned and practical risk-based guidance to business counterparts.

J.D. from accredited law school and license to practice law in CA.

Prior in-house experience preferred.

Excellent verbal and written

communication skills

Strong organizational skills;

Ability to run a project from start to finish.

Extensive experience litigating employment claims.
