Role Description The Scholar role at CyJurII is a remote volunteer position focused on research, writing, and thought leadership in cyber jurisprudence and digital governance. Day-to-day responsibilities may include conducting independent and collaborative research on topics such as AI and law, cybercrime, digital sovereignty, and cross-border jurisdiction, and producing articles, briefs, and analytical papers for publications. Scholars may support the development of policy recommendations, case law analyses, and thematic reports, and contribute to online seminars, workshops, and panel discussions. The role also involves staying current with global developments in technology law, engaging with a network of experts, and assisting in organizing or curating content for events and initiatives. This position is suitable for individuals seeking to deepen their expertise and contribute to global discourse on law in the digital age.
Qualifications

  • Strong research and analytical skills in law, international relations, public policy, or related fields, with demonstrated ability to work with complex legal and technical materials.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to produce clear, well-structured academic or policy-oriented content in English.
  • Knowledge or keen interest in technology-related legal domains such as cybercrime, AI regulation, digital rights, data protection, and cross-border jurisdiction.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and meet agreed deadlines in a volunteer capacity.
  • Relevant academic background (e.g., law, political science, international studies, computer science with legal focus, or similar); advanced studies or ongoing enrollment in such programs is an advantage.
  • Experience with academic publishing, policy writing, or participation in research projects, think tanks, or legal clinics is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with openness to interdisciplinary work with scholars, practitioners, and policymakers across regions.
  • Familiarity with digital tools for remote collaboration (e.g., document-sharing platforms, video conferencing, reference management software) is preferred.
