The Title I Reading Teacher provides targeted support to students at risk of falling behind in reading using evidence-based strategies to improve literacy skills. By collaborating with teachers, administrators and families, this role directly supports literacy development and improving student achievement.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide small-group and one-on-one reading interventions for students who need additional support in literacy.
Assess students’ reading abilities using formal and informal assessments to identify strengths and areas for growth.
Develop and implement data-driven instructional plans tailored to individual student needs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to align reading interventions with grade-level curriculum and state standards.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of assessments, interventions, and growth.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and provide strategies for reading support at home.
Utilize evidence-based reading strategies, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension techniques.
Participate in professional development and stay informed about best practices in literacy instruction.
Support a literacy-rich environment by integrating engaging reading materials and activities into instruction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Education and Licensure:
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement required
Valid Iowa Teaching License
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience working with elementary students in reading intervention or literacy instruction
In-depth understanding of reading strategies, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development
Effective communication and collaboration skills
