Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable full-time Attorney to join our legal team. Small, fully remote plaintiff firm focusing on Defense Base Act claims seeks an experienced attorney to handle all aspects of claim from filing to resolution. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Defense Base Act litgation or similar federal administrative law area. This role requires proven ability to litigate effectively on behalf of clients. The Attorney will work collaboratively within a law office environment to provide comprehensive legal services and support to our clients.
Duties
Manage docket of cases ranging from pre-litigation to formal hearing ensuring compliance with all deadlines.
Work with clients to complete all aspects of discovery pursuant to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
Maintain accurate records of case files and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may affect clients’ cases.
Negotiate settlement of claims with opposing counsel.
Attend and effectively represent clients at formal hearing.
Draft motions and briefs.
Attend meetings with clients to prepare them for depositions, vocational interviews, and independent medical examinations.
Effectively represent clients at depositions and vocational interviews and draft written report of same.
Enter accurate entries reflecting time spent into timekeeping software to meet minimum billable hours requirement.
Collaborate with other attorneys and staff within the law office to deliver high-quality legal services.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the bar in any state.
Must pass background check.
Knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Ability to track and prioritize a large docket of cases.
2+ years experience in Defense Base Act claims, federal administrative law, workers compensation, or Department of Labor cases preferred.
