Who we are and what we do:
The Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter represents all State executives, officials, departments, boards, agencies, and commissions in matters arising from their public duties. Such representation includes participation in litigation, transactional matters, and giving day-to-day legal advice to a wide variety of State entities. The Attorney General’s Office employs approximately 200 attorneys organized into 21 regular divisions within 6 sections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and regularly update case calendar deadlines/notes/status, produce pleadings and proposed orders for attorney review
- Review form documents for clerical errors/mistakes
- Formatting and finalizing preparation of briefs ‘ including preparation of table of contents/table of authorities, preparation of exhibits/attachments for filings, and case citation verification (and hyperlinks if appropriate)
- File documents electronically, by mail, or via facsimile to the appropriate courts
- Maintain electronic case files and data, keep detailed notes on electronic case management system
- Discovery for lawsuits: including electronic discovery review and reports, subpoena, deposition scheduling/summaries, witness coordination, written discovery and other related tasks
- Assistance with incoming and outgoing mail, travel arrangements, invoices, expense reports, reimbursements, closing cases and physical and electronic files, archiving cases
- Administrative weekly, monthly, annual reports for attorney review
- Trial preparation tasks (exhibit binders, coordination of witnesses) and attendance
- Westlaw and/or Lexis research
- Rulemaking review and coordination with clients for final rules
- Other responsibilities as determined by the deputy
Minimum Qualifications:
- Four-year degree or paralegal certification
- Proficiency preferred for advanced use of Word, Excel, and Adobe
