This attorney position will be a critical team member of the commercial contracting group within the broader Legal Team. You will draft, review, negotiate and interpret all commercial contracts (other than real estate, fuel, construction, licensing and M&A contracts) across the Casey’s enterprise. In this role, you will provide legal guidance, recommendations and advice on contracts and related commercial agreements for critical functions throughout the company including IT, Marketing, Digital, Media, Communications, Procurement, Facilities & Maintenance, Brand Insights, Grocery & General Merchandise, Private Label, Prepared Foods & Dispensed Beverages.

What You’ll Do:

Join a budding Contracts & Commercial Transactions team within the Legal function of a fast-growing company.
Build trusted relationships across all levels and departments throughout Casey’s.
Draft, review, interpret, negotiate and provide legal support for a wide variety of commercial contracts including technology (hardware and software as a service), food, age-restricted products, rebate offers, consumer packaged goods, distribution activities, digital and traditional marketing/advertising, facilities & maintenance, consulting and professional services, etc.
Identify, develop and implement best practices and improvements to the contracting process, contract management strategy and workflows including creating and revising standard contract terms and templates and drafting contract guidance documentation.
Proactively engage and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to communicate consistent contract-related risk tolerances established by the business and to advise stakeholders on contract obligations and restrictions, vague language, commercial implications and potential business risks and likelihoods.
Work closely with internal legal and other Casey’s team members for the development and inclusion of specialized contract provisions (i.e., risk management, food safety & quality assurance, data security, privacy, intellectual property protection, supplier guidelines, etc.).
Work well with colleagues, clients and third-party support including temporary team members, contractors and outside counsel, as necessary.
Leave your ego at home. Willingly take direction and accept coaching from Legal business leaders, peers, paralegals, legal assistants and business partners.
Provide general legal support and guidance to the Procurement Team and participate in the evaluation, implementation and adoption of a formal contract lifecycle management platform.
Support contract-related M&A due diligence activities and perform other duties as assigned.

The position will be based out of the Casey’s Store Support Center in Ankeny, Iowa (Des Moines metro area).
Only limited, occasional travel required.

Compensation:

Starting pay range:‏‏‎ ‎$105,000‏‏‎ ‎-‏‏‎ ‎$135,000.‏‏‎ ‎Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance and an annual equity grant in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.

J. D. from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction.
Minimum 2-5 years of legal experience with significant contract drafting practice and strong research abilities.
Ability to take ownership, know when to seek advice AND actually seek advice (when necessary) and graciously accept constructive feedback—all with a practical, cooperative, team-centric, goal-focused approach and can-do attitude.
Experience establishing relationships across multiple business functions, departments and/or teams and the ability to balance business needs against legal and commercial risks.
Excellent written and strong verbal communication skills, along with the ability to tailor legal guidance and messages to diverse audiences including supplier, vendors and Casey’s team members with vastly different exposure to, and experience working with, attorneys or the Legal function.
A desire to learn all areas of the business, develop new skills and expertise and lead by example.
