Job Summary

The Labor & Employment Practice Assistant provides administrative and legal support to attorneys and litigation teams within a fast-paced legal environment. This role is responsible for preparing and managing legal documents, coordinating litigation support activities, and maintaining organized case management systems while ensuring compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements. The Practice Assistant serves as a critical member of the legal support team by facilitating efficient workflow, supporting client communication, and assisting attorneys with day-to-day litigation operations.

Primary responsibilities include drafting and formatting legal documents, managing court filings and litigation calendars, and maintaining case files and document management systems. This position plays an important role in supporting attorneys and ensuring the timely and accurate handling of labor and employment matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Type, proofread, edit, and format legal correspondence, pleadings, memoranda, agreements, and other legal documents under strict deadlines.
  • Assist with drafting pleadings, motions, and additional legal documentation as directed.
  • Prepare and electronically file court documents in state and federal courts.
  • Research court filing procedures and requirements for multiple jurisdictions and administrative agencies.
  • Create, organize, and maintain pleading binders, exhibit binders, and litigation materials.
  • Open new client matters and process new business intake documentation.
  • Maintain and update electronic and physical case files and records.
  • Coordinate attorney calendars, appointments, depositions, hearings, and client meetings.
  • Track litigation deadlines and assist with docket management to ensure timely filings and case progression.
  • Prepare and submit expense reports and reimbursement documentation.
  • Utilize document management systems and legal software applications to improve workflow efficiency and document organization.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, litigation support staff, and document services teams on document production and case management activities.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and internal staff.
  • Conduct basic legal research and administrative analysis as assigned.
  • Stay informed regarding practice-specific procedures, court rules, and litigation processes.
  • Support additional administrative and litigation-related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of litigation or legal administrative experience required.
  • Prior experience supporting Labor & Employment or litigation practice groups preferred.
  • Experience with electronic court filing systems in state and federal courts required.
  • Prior experience using document management systems preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience working in a law firm or professional services environment preferred.

  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed to support litigation deadlines and client needs.

  • Familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and litigation processes preferred.
  • Experience with NetDocuments (NetDocs) or similar document management platforms preferred.
