BASIC FUNCTION
To provide area security and public safety within limited jurisdiction (County Campuses, Courts and Justice Centers or other designated County property) and to provide assistance and information to the public, law enforcement, and court officials.
Responsibilities include:
Patrols and inspects grounds and buildings within assigned jurisdiction, maintaining awareness of volatile situations, suspicious circumstances, and potential weapons.
Enforces laws applicable to the jurisdiction.
Maintains order during court proceedings and events on County Campus, Courts, Justice Centers, and other County property.
Searches individuals and packages, seizes weapons, contraband, and potential explosives to prevent entry into county facilities, including correctional and court facilities; takes appropriate action, including evacuation when necessary.
Responds to and investigates reported incidents, crimes, and suspicious situations; controls and secures scenes, gathers evidence, and interviews witnesses and victims as needed.
Arrests individuals with warrants, transports, and books individuals into jail, completes reports, and testifies when required.
Responds to alarms, assists in evacuations, investigates injuries and accidents, and administers first aid.
Monitors security entrances and contracted security staff.
Interacts with the media by providing general information and relaying instructions from judges during court events.
Assists the public in locating appropriate county offices and maintains current information on county facilities.
STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES
Maintains necessary records and reports as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or G.E.D., plus one of the following:
One year as a sworn officer in a civilian law enforcement agency with at least 12 months of continuous service in the past 24 months;
Five years of experience as a fully commissioned officer with no more than a 48-month break in service;
Three years as an active reserve law enforcement officer in Washington State, currently serving as a reserve police officer, with duties similar to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient, at least 21 years old, and pass job-related tests.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of background checks, fingerprinting, polygraph, psychological exam, drug screening, and physical exam. Ability to acquire First Aid/CPR certification. Must carry firearms on duty and qualify regularly. Must hold a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: law enforcement practices, laws of arrest, legal terminology, safety programs.
Ability to: communicate effectively, analyze situations, maintain order, establish relationships, learn communication hardware, understand laws, record information, follow procedures, write clearly, perform physical tasks, work independently and under stress.
SUPERVISION
Works under minimal supervision with compliance checks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor and outdoor work in all weather, armed while on duty, potential confrontations, may work evenings, weekends, holidays.
