Maritime Regulatory Associate – National Am Law 100 Firm

About the Position:
Our client, a sophisticated national law firm, is seeking a maritime regulatory/compliance lawyer to join its Chicago office as an Associate. The person in this position will work closely with attorneys in the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation business unit to advise on the regulatory components of maritime law, catering to companies that manage diverse shipping operations, including those with in-house fleets as well as those who rely on outsourced or third-party fleets.

Responsibilities:

· Handle a range of legal matters connected to ocean vessel transit and port operations

· Ensure regulatory compliance with ocean freight laws

· Assist with resolving disputes, including those involving detention and demurrage charges

Required Qualifications:

· 4+ years of experience with maritime regulatory compliance and licensing requirements

· Experience working with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)

· Strong knowledge of the intricacies of commerce by sea and new and evolving FMC regulations

· Understanding of legal and regulatory challenges specific to the transportation and logistics industries

· Excellent academic credentials

Location:
Chicago, IL, Boston, MA, or Washington, DC (Hybrid)

Compensation:
The anticipated base compensation for this position is $225,000 – $275,000.
