Role Description The Maritime Lawyer (Regulatory Compliance) will provide legal advice and support on maritime regulations, statutory requirements, and compliance obligations affecting clients’ operations. This full-time role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating maritime contracts and compliance documentation, as well as preparing legal opinions and policy guidance on regulatory affairs. The lawyer will monitor changes in local and international maritime regulations, conduct legal research, and assist clients in implementing compliance frameworks and responding to regulatory inquiries or investigations. The position also includes collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, delivering training on regulatory issues, and supporting dispute resolution or enforcement matters when needed. This is a hybrid role based in Lagos State, Nigeria, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Regulatory Compliance and Regulatory Affairs in the maritime sector.
- Proficiency in interpreting and applying maritime Regulations and related statutory frameworks.
- Experience handling Legal Issues and providing clear, practical Legal Advice to clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) and admission to practice law in Nigeria; maritime law specialization is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in maritime, shipping, or transport law, particularly in regulatory and compliance matters.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and contract review skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, manage multiple matters, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- High ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to ongoing professional development.
