Reporting directly to the Head of Legal – Sri Lanka, you will;
- Provide legal support and advice on a broad range of e-commerce solutions by conducting related research for lawful implementation of business objectives in an often-challenging regulatory landscape.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts, encompassing customer terms, brand/bank partnership agreements, marketing and technology agreements, supply agreements, data protection agreements, and other routine contracts.
- Offer daily legal support on operational matters, advising on intellectual property, consumer protection, data privacy, IT security, payments, and counterparty disputes.
- Interact, correspond, and attend meetings/inquiries with regulatory bodies.
- Address inquiries before the Consumer Affairs Authority and make submissions to regulators where necessary.
- Attend court hearings and coordinate with external counsel to manage the case portfolio effectively.
- Prepare resolutions and support the Head of Legal to manage company secretarial matters.
- Draft, review, and attest lease agreements (with external Notary Public support or in-house), managing associated files and trackers.
- Collaborate with regional legal teams in Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, or other Alibaba group entities, providing support as directed by the Regional Head of Legal.
Job Requirements
- Qualified Attorney at Law with a Bachelor's in Law.
- Notary Public (preferred but not mandatory).
- 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably from top-tier law firms or in-house legal experience in reputable companies.
- Experience in trade, corporate/commercial, IP, data privacy, M&A, and/or consumer protection issues is preferred.
- Experience in fast-evolving, high-pressure, and dynamic industries is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of the law and strong drafting and communication skills.
- Ability to think critically and work with minimal supervision is essential.
