Legal Team Supervisor

The Office of K. Edward Safir, Standing Chapter 13 Trustee, is accepting expressions of interest for the role of Legal Team Supervisor. This position oversees the day-to-day performance of the Legal Team while also performing a share of the case-level legal analysis and document work that supports the team. We are looking for a detail-oriented, collaborative team lead who combines strong bankruptcy knowledge with the organizational and people-management skills needed to keep a busy team running smoothly.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Supervision

  • Manage and supervise a legal team of approximately 5–10 staff members.
  • Work with the Director of Operations & Information Systems on hiring and dismissal decisions for team members.
  • Organize and maintain efficient team workflow, identifying and resolving problems and seeking ways to increase efficiency.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of the office’s internal organization and interdepartmental dependencies.
  • Recommend improvements to office systems and processes.
  • Oversee daily operations, workflow, scheduling, and forward planning for the team.
  • Train, motivate, and supervise all personnel within the team.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of team equipment, methods, and procedures in order to train new hires and upgrade the skills of existing staff.
  • Select, develop, and train personnel to meet short- and long-range team objectives.
  • Monitor and measure team performance using key indicators, and review management reports to confirm cases are being properly administered.
  • Exercise day-to-day responsibility and authority over team resources (people and equipment) to ensure efficient operation.
  • Identify ongoing training needs of the team.
  • Communicate with the Court, debtors, debtors’ attorneys, creditors, and creditors’ attorneys regarding case information and requirements.

Legal Analyst Duties

  • Review and audit cases prior to 341 meetings to ensure compliance with bankruptcy codes and rules.
  • Review mortgage claims for issues such as perfection of claims and excessive attorney fees and costs.
  • Review and mark amended plans and schedules.
  • Assist in drafting motions, objections, orders, and other pleadings as well as processing other documents and pleadings as the paralegals & legal assistants.
  • Follow up on case status after hearings, coordinating with staff attorneys to ensure outstanding legal issues are resolved.
  • Ensure court calendar dates and 341 meeting dates are provided to the Court and tracked internally as well as ensuring internal calendars are prepared for the trustee and staff attorneys.
  • Update TNG software program with results of hearings and meetings.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.
  • Specialized training or experience in bankruptcy case administration.
  • 4+ years in varied bankruptcy positions with increasing responsibility, including hands-on legal document preparation experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficient knowledge of ECF and the bankruptcy software application.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, with at least basic familiarity of bankruptcy codes and rules.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at al levels.
  • Ability to train, motivate, and manage a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities at once.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $83,000.00 – $105,000.00 per year
