POSITION OVERVIEW: The NBPA legal department is seeking an intern who is currently enrolled in law school to work from our midtown offices during the summer. The intern will have a defined set of daily monitoring and other tasks and will also provide support to the attorneys and staff on various projects. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Keynote. Attention to detail and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently is required. The ideal candidate for this opportunity must have a genuine interest in protecting the rights of our members and ideally would have some familiarity with the NBPA Regulations Governing Player Agents and the NBA/NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

LOCATION: New York City, NY

DURATION: June 8th – August 14th

RATE: $26

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Maintenance of our digital database for incoming player/agent contracts (SPACs). Intern will receive training on the approval and denial process and be responsible for recording executed SPACs
  • Assist in organizing correspondence and maintain and improve the department’s filing system
  • Letter and contract drafting as well as other legal writing
  • Legal research on labor, sports, commercial case law and other issues
  • Assistance with collective bargaining research and analysis

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited law school 
  • Some experience in an office environment 
  • Experience with legal writing, letter drafting and legal research
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
