Title: Legal Principal – AI Legal Tech

Company: proofwise AI

Location: San Francisco, CA

About the Company

We are an early-stage AI-powered legal AI startup building AI OS for Legal Workflow, a B2B platform designed to help law firms and legal teams adopt practical AI systems for high-value legal work.

The company is led by former founders and operators with multiple exits and experience building, scaling, investing in, and commercializing technology companies.

The product has already been built and is currently in pilot with multiple law firms, including a national law firm. The company is actively raising an institutional financing round while expanding pilot usage, commercialization, and early customer adoption.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious legal AI company at an early stage and help disrupt the legal technology space with practical AI tools built for real legal workflows.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Legal Principal – AI Legal Tech focused on litigation workflow who can help translate real legal practice into usable AI-powered workflows.

This role is ideal for someone with a J.D., 2–3+ years of litigation experience, and strong interest in legal AI, litigation strategy, product implementation, and attorney workflow automation.

This is not a traditional legal role. It is a hands-on legal AI implementation role for someone who understands how litigators work and wants to help law firms adopt the next generation of AI legal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Help design and implement AI-powered workflows for high-value legal and litigation use cases.
  • Translate legal pain points into product requirements, implementation plans, and customer-facing use cases.
  • Collaborate with early users to gather feedback, improve usability, and support adoption.
  • Test AI outputs for legal accuracy, usefulness, and workflow fit.
  • Support product demos, pilot onboarding, and customer implementation materials.
  • Help identify high-value legal workflows where AI can materially improve attorney productivity.

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. degree required.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of litigation experience, preferably at a law firm, court, clerkship, government litigation office, in-house litigation team, or legal technology company.
  • Strong understanding of litigation workflows, including pleadings, discovery, motions, factual investigation, depositions, settlement strategy, and trial preparation.
  • Strong analytical, writing, communication, and product thinking skills.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated legal work critically and identify accuracy, usability, and workflow issues.
  • Strong interest in AI, legal automation, litigation analytics, and the future of legal practice.
  • Comfortable working in an early-stage startup environment with speed, ambiguity, and high ownership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical background in computer science, engineering, data science, AI, product management, software development, or legal technology.
  • Experience with legal tech, e-discovery, legal research platforms, litigation databases, case management tools, or document review workflows.
  • Prior experience with one or more of the following areas: complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, IP litigation, antitrust, employment litigation, white-collar matters, or mass torts.
  • Judicial clerkship or court experience.
  • Experience working with product, engineering, or startup teams.
  • Strong academic and professional background preferred.

Ideal Candidate

You may be a litigation associate, judicial clerk, legal tech professional, or legally trained product thinker who wants to move from traditional legal work into legal AI implementation.

You should understand how lawyers actually work and be excited about helping build AI tools that improve legal work, legal operations, and attorney productivity.
