General business and transactional matters regarding hospital vendors, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, gifts, medical technology, institutional events, real estate, managed care, innovation, collaborations, etc.
Transactional matters and legal counsel regarding MD Anderson research projects and collaborations, intellectual property assets, which may include data, trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
PEO/Lit, Risk
This position will focus upon Patient Care and Hospital Operations and Employment matters but will also be exposed to Risk Management and Litigation.
Externship Subject Matter Areas
Medical negligence, business, and employment claims/lawsuits brought against a state agency hospital
Risk management matters involving patient care issues and hospital regulations
Employment-related matters/disputes and educational agreements
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
GB/IP – Externship Responsibilities
Help with contract drafting and interpretation, as needed
Conduct legal research regarding business-related matters and intellectual property issues.
Interact with institutional clients, including supply chain management, innovation, pharmacy, managed care, real estate, philanthropy, strategic industry ventures, facilities management, institutional compliance, office of technology commercialization, and research administration
PEO/Lit, Risk
Conduct state and federal research regarding various hospital regulations and patient care issues, including scope of practice for licensed providers, advance directives, informed consents, policy development, patient rights, emergency room laws, telehealth, etc.
Help with drafting and responding to pleadings, motions, and discovery related to lawsuits brought against the institution
Conduct legal research regarding employment and academic/educational matters
Eligibility Requirements
This summer internship is available for rising 2Ls and rising 3Ls.
