Cpl Group is seeking a Legal Executive or Legal Analyst to join its in-house Group Legal Department on a permanent basis. Working alongside the Senior Legal Counsel and wider Group Legal Team, the successful candidate will provide practical, commercially focused legal support across the Group. The role suits a highly organised individual who can support a varied legal workload, work closely with stakeholders and help balance legal risk with commercial objectives. The role will involve supporting commercial contract reviews, maintaining and drafting templates and playbooks, carrying out legal research, assisting with corporate reorganisation and governance matters, and supporting claims, disputes and case management activity. The successful candidate should hold a law degree and have a minimum of 4 years prior legal experience gained either in-house or within a law firm.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts

  • Review, mark up and assist with customer, supplier and other commercial agreements.
  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel and Group Legal Team with contract review workflows, issue spotting, risk summaries and preparation of negotiation positions, liaising with commercial teams, pricing teams and business divisions as required.
  • Assist with maintaining, updating and improving contract templates, standard clauses, guidance notes, clause banks, playbooks, checklists and internal legal resources.

Template, Playbook and Legal Research Support

  • Carry out legal research on contract law, company law, commercial law, data protection, employment law, litigation, regulatory and other areas relevant to the Group.
  • Prepare clear research notes, summaries, first drafts, briefings and practical guidance for review by the Senior Legal Counsel or wider Group Legal Team.
  • Help develop user-friendly legal tools, template guidance and playbook materials for non-legal stakeholders, supporting consistency, efficiency and risk management across the business.

Corporate, Governance and Reorganisation Support

  • Support company law, corporate governance and corporate documentation matters, including entity records, board and shareholder documentation and internal approvals.
  • Assist with internal corporate reorganisation, restructuring, integration and group simplification projects, including coordinating project deliverables, signature processes, document execution, filings, due diligence requests and input from internal stakeholders and external advisers.

Claims, Disputes and Case Management

  • Support the management of claims, disputes, pre-litigation matters and case files, including liaising with internal stakeholders, Group insurers, brokers, external counsel and other advisers where appropriate.
  • Review correspondence, organise case materials, prepare chronologies, summaries, status updates and draft responses for review by the Senior Legal Counsel or wider Group Legal Team.
  • Track claims, deadlines, actions and next steps, and assist with regulatory, contractual, information and document requests and other ad hoc Group Legal work.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
  • Minimum of 4 years prior legal experience gained in-house or within a law firm
  • Strong legal drafting, reviewing, research and issue-spotting skills, with experience supporting commercial contract reviews and identifying key legal and commercial risk issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to manage multiple matters, competing priorities and deadlines in a busy and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, commercial awareness and confidence liaising with legal and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Proactive, flexible and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical business context.

Desirable

  • Prior experience working in an in-house legal department or supporting business stakeholders in a commercial environment.
  • Experience supporting contract template management, clause banks, playbooks, legal process improvement projects, corporate reorganisations, integrations or wider corporate transactions
  • Familiarity with company law, corporate governance, data protection, employment law, claims, disputes, litigation or case management, and experience working with cross-functional teams.
