Candidates joining Wahoo Music will contribute to a growing, cross-border organization at the intersection of music, rights management, and international business.

Role Description This is a part-time, hybrid Legal Counsel role based in Abidjan, with flexibility for partial work from home. The Legal Counsel will review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including copyright, licensing, distribution, and investment contracts with artists, labels, and rights holders. The role involves providing practical legal advice on intellectual property, media, entertainment, and corporate law issues across multiple jurisdictions. The Legal Counsel will prepare and maintain legal documentation, support due diligence for catalog acquisitions, and ensure compliance with relevant local and international regulations. Additional responsibilities include risk assessment, dispute resolution support, and close collaboration with internal teams such as investment, operations, and finance to align legal strategies with business ob

jectives.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law and familiarity with intellectual property, entertainment, and commercial law relevant to music and media.
  • Demonstrated experience in Contract Negotiation, particularly with licensing, distribution, and rights management agreements.
  • Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, reviewing, and interpreting complex contracts and legal instruments.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and manage Legal Issues across multiple jurisdictions in Africa and internationally.
  • Experience providing clear, actionable Legal Advice to cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Professional legal qualification (e.g., law degree and bar admission in a relevant jurisdiction) preferred.
  • Experience in the music, media, or entertainment industry is highly beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural, international environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French language skills and familiarity with African markets are an advantage.
