The Opportunity

My client is a leading international renewable energy and infrastructure business with a growing portfolio of projects across Europe.

As part of their continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Legal Counsel to join their Swedish office in Umea. Working closely with the Group Legal & Compliance team, this role will provide legal support across corporate governance, contract management, and regulatory compliance activities within Sweden.

This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional looking to join a highly international business operating at the forefront of the energy transition.

Reporting into the wider Legal & Compliance function, you will support governance activities across Swedish entities, provide legal advice on commercial agreements, ensure compliance with Swedish and EU regulations, and help mitigate legal and commercial risks across the business.

You will work closely with operational teams, finance, procurement, senior stakeholders, government authorities, and external legal advisers to support business-critical decision-making and ongoing growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support corporate governance activities across Swedish entities
  • Maintain corporate records, board resolutions, shareholder documentation, and regulatory filings
  • Ensure compliance with Swedish corporate legislation and relevant EU regulations
  • Assist with governance audits, reviews, and compliance monitoring activities
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a range of commercial agreements including service agreements, supplier contracts, and NDAs
  • Support the full contract lifecycle from drafting through to execution and ongoing compliance
  • Provide legal guidance on contractual matters and assist with dispute resolution where required
  • Conduct legal risk assessments and provide practical solutions to mitigate exposure
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business
  • Support the implementation of legal and compliance best practices across the organisation
  • Work closely with internal teams including Finance, Procurement, and Operations
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, regulatory authorities, and business partners
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to support business objectives.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Law, ideally with a focus on Corporate or Commercial Law
  • Approximately 4-8 years of legal experience within a corporate, commercial, or governance focused environment
  • Strong understanding of Swedish corporate governance requirements and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Previous experience within renewable energy, infrastructure, or other regulated sectors would be advantageous
  • Fluent Swedish and English, both written and spoken
