Shawna L. Stevens PLLC, a reputable family law firm in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and professional Legal Assistant to join our growing team. This role is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional looking to contribute to a dynamic and client-focused law firm.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and maintain attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings effectively.
Prepare, proofread, and edit legal documents and correspondence, including pleadings, contracts, and memoranda, with a high level of accuracy.
Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client files to ensure accessibility and compliance with legal standards.
Answer and direct incoming calls, take accurate messages, and provide courteous and helpful information to clients and callers.
Perform clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, scanning, faxing, and mailing as needed.
Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all interactions.
Assist in preparing and filing court documents, including electronic filing, in compliance with Virginia legal procedures.
Maintain strict client confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
Provide general administrative support to attorneys and office staff as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate’s degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or administrative assistant, ideally in a law firm setting.
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Strong typing skills (minimum 50 WPM).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with the Virginia court system and legal procedures is a significant advantage.
Notary public certification (or willingness to obtain within three months of employment) is preferred.

What We Offer

Compensation: $38,000.00 – $44,000.00 per year, based on experience.

Location:
Work is fully in-person at our Fredericksburg, VA office.
