Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Legal Assistant or Paralegal position (depending on applicants qualifications) based in Newport, Rhode Island supporting our Trusts and Estates team. Partial-remote work may be available for a qualified candidate. Hours may be negotiable depending on candidate qualifications. Compensation may be negotiable depending on candidate qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Providing comprehensive practice support and case management utilizing practice management software
- Draft and proofread correspondence, notices, legal documents and forms (ie. wills, POAs, probate court forms, etc.)
- Organize and electronically file documents, including filing documents with courts
- Communicate with clients, beneficiaries, and financial institutions regarding estate and trust matters
- Review bank statements and maintain accountings or provide support to attorney maintaining accountings
- Draft estate tax returns, or provide support to attorney drafting estate tax returns
- Notarize documents, as needed
- Conduct legal research, as needed
- Assist with coordination and scheduling with meetings and deadlines
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience
- Estate planning, trust administration and probate experience highly preferred or transferable legal or financial skills and strong willingness to learn and participate in ongoing legal education
- Basic accounting skills or experience
- The ability to independently and efficiently prioritize workflow
- Superior organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency in LEAP or other practice management platforms
- Experience filing court documents
- Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and client service skills
