Desert Disability, a growing Social Security Disability law firm, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with prior law firm experience who is looking to build a long-term career in the legal field.

This position will begin as a Legal Assistant supporting our Hearings Department and offers a clear path for growth. As you develop your knowledge and skills, you will be trained to become a Hearings Paralegal/Case Manager, taking on more advanced responsibilities such as preparing clients for hearings and drafting legal briefs.

We are a small, collaborative firm that values initiative, attention to detail, accountability, and exceptional client service. Our team works in a fast-paced environment representing individuals seeking Social Security Disability benefits.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

  • Work from home several days per week
  • Work in our Scottsdale office approximately 2–3 days per week
  • Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, full-time

Target start date: Late August or early September.

Compensation

  • Salary: $52,000 annually

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of law firm experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and proofreading ability
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional, compassionate client service skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and cloud-based software
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a remote team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Social Security Disability, personal injury, workers’ compensation, family law, or another litigation practice area
  • Experience using legal case management software
  • Calendaring experience
  • Experience communicating with courts, agencies, or medical providers

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Schedule medical discovery calls and pre-hearing meetings
  • Calendar hearings, deadlines, and important case events
  • Prepare and submit hearing-related documents
  • Conduct client status update calls and attorney fee follow-up calls
  • Complete legal and factual research assignments as directed
  • Assist with incoming mail processing and client welcome packets
  • Maintain accurate case files and update case management software
  • Communicate with clients, the Social Security Administration, medical providers, and hearing offices
  • Support the hearings paralegals and managing attorney with case preparation
  • Perform additional administrative and legal support duties as assigned

Growth Opportunity

  • Conducting pre-hearing meetings with clients
