Join the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IAC) as a Legal Advocate and make a meaningful impact by providing advocacy, support, and resources to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Legal Advocate works directly with clients to provide trauma-informed, client-centered support while helping survivors navigate civil legal matters, including protective orders, custody matters, divorce proceedings, and other legal processes.

This position provides court advocacy and accompaniment, safety planning, information and referrals, and advocacy with community agencies on behalf of survivors. The Legal Advocate collaborates with legal service providers, including the ANDVSA Legal Advocacy Project and Alaska Legal Services Corporation, to help ensure clients have access to appropriate legal resources and support. This role also participates in the SART on-call schedule, maintains accurate client records, and stays current on state and federal laws impacting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

In addition to legal advocacy responsibilities, the Legal Advocate supports shelter operations by assisting with client needs, answering phones, engaging with residents, completing documentation, and contributing to a safe and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, a Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent relevant experience, along with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Experience working in legal services, victim advocacy, or with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, compassion, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with integrity. Proficiency with computers, databases, and documentation systems is required. A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check are required.

Supervision: Directly responsible to the Advocacy Manager

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week during hours the court system is operating

Pay: $25.00 – $28.12 per hour
