The Contentious Matters Team of the Compliance Department of Deloitte Middle East & Cyprus is seeking to recruit a Legal Advisor, at the level of Experienced Associate.

The Legal Advisor Role

The Contentious Matters Legal Advisor will support the Contentious Matters Leader to serve the internal business by helping manage the current contentious matters workload and prevent new contentious matters from escalating.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly reporting requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Maintain a detailed, up-to-date database of all contentious matters.
  • Prepare the relevant internal reports by extracting the necessary information from the database.
  • Manage case files on SharePoint, ensuring documents are organized and up to date.
  • Diarize deadlines and other critical dates.
  • Draft and manage email correspondence; keep accurate records in the case management system.
  • Email and case management.
  • Assist in the streamlining of processes (including drawing up forms and templates for internal circulation).
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and compile case statistics.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Analyze facts, gather evidence, and prepare legal memorandums.
  • Prepare concise summary notes on points of law, legislative amendments, and case law.
  • Review pleadings and provide input where required.
  • Draft letters of demand and legal notices.
  • Provide general legal advice on routine issues.
  • Manage simple cases end-to-end.
  • Support the Contentious Matters Team in preparing and delivering internal training on contentious matters issues and risk mitigation.
  • Monitor legal developments across the Middle East and Cyprus and report material updates to the Contentious Matters Team.
  • Act as a liaison between the Contentious Matters Team and other internal functions as required.
  • Act as a liaison between the Contentious Matters Leader and external counsel as required from time to time.
  • Work with the Contentious Matters Leader to develop and enhance policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with laws and regulations across multiple Middle East jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Law from a common-law jurisdiction. Additional civil-law qualification will be considered an advantage.
  • At least 2 years’ post-admission experience at a reputable law firm, preferably in the UK, US, Australia, or Canada. Additional experience in a civil-law environment will be considered an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to learn about diverse stakeholder sectors.
  • Proactive approach across all areas of work.
  • Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; exceptional command of English.
  • Strong IT literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
