Job Summary
The Legal Advisor will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support to the organization on all legal, regulatory, compliance, labor, and contractual matters related to the garment and textile industry. The role involves ensuring compliance with applicable laws, minimizing legal risks, handling litigation, and supporting business operations through effective legal counsel.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Monitor changes in labor, industrial, environmental, and commercial laws affecting the textile and garment industry.
- Advise management on legal implications of business decisions.
Contract Management
- Draft, review, negotiate, and vet agreements, including:
- Vendor and supplier agreements
- Customer contracts
- Employment contracts
- Service agreements
- Lease and rental agreements
- Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
- Maintain and manage contract records.
Labor & Industrial Relations
- Provide legal support on labor law matters, including:
- Factories Act
- Industrial Relations Code
- Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code
- Social Security laws (PF, ESI, Gratuity, etc.)
- Handle disciplinary proceedings, domestic enquiries, and employee grievances.
- Advise HR on employee-related legal issues.
Litigation & Dispute Management
- Coordinate with external advocates and legal consultants.
- Handle court cases, labor disputes, arbitration matters, and legal notices.
- Prepare legal documentation and responses.
- Maintain records of ongoing and completed legal cases.
Corporate Governance
- Assist in drafting company policies and procedures.
- Ensure legal compliance in corporate governance matters.
- Support management during audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
Risk Management
- Identify legal risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Review business practices to ensure legal compliance.
- Provide legal training and awareness sessions for employees and management.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from a recognized university.
- 8 -10 years of experience in legal advisory, preferably in the garment, textile, manufacturing, or industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws, commercial contracts, and industrial regulations.
