Position Summary
Blue Ox is seeking a Landman to support leasehold acquisition, title, and asset management efforts across the Permian Basin. The Landman will be responsible for a broad range of land functions including title review, lease acquisition support, broker oversight, acquisition due diligence, and land records management. This role offers significant exposure and fast development – the right candidate will work directly with company leadership and touch live deals from day one.
Role Responsibilities
- Support acquisition and divestiture activity, including title due diligence, lease and contract review, defect identification, and data room analysis
- Support active leasing efforts: prepare oil and gas leases, amendments, ratifications, extensions, and related instruments; assist in negotiations with mineral and surface owners
- Oversee and direct third-party brokers performing title, leasing, and due diligence work; review broker work product for accuracy and completeness
- Review drilling and division order title opinions; manage and acquire curative
- Review and summarize land contracts, including leases, JOAs, farmouts, surface use agreements, ROWs, and purchase and sale agreements
- Maintain accurate lease records and monitor ongoing lease obligations — rentals, shut-in payments, continuous development clauses, Pugh clause partial terminations, and expirations
- Prepare ownership exhibits, plats, and maps in support of leasing, drilling, and acquisition decisions
- Collaborate with geology, engineering, and accounting on DSU planning, well proposals, elections, and division of interest setup
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Energy Commerce, Energy Management, Business, or a related field
- 3–5 years of oil and gas land experience, with meaningful exposure to the Permian Basin
- Working knowledge of Texas and New Mexico oil and gas law, including lease maintenance provisions, conveyancing fundamentals, and title review
- Demonstrated ability to run title in Texas county records and digital courthouse systems (e.g., CourthouseDirect, TexasFile)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS systems, and land systems
- Comfort adopting new technology and AI-assisted workflows
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clean, well-organized work product with minimal rework
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities to deadline without close supervision
- Authorized to work in the United States

Location & Schedule
