Overview
Junior Associate Attorney Jobs in Orem, UT at The Ord Firm
Ord Firm is seeking a Junior Associate Attorney to join our growing practice. This position is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants broad exposure to multiple areas of law, substantial responsibility early in their career, and the opportunity to develop strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
About the Role
Ord Firm handles a diverse range of legal matters and practice areas. Rather than placing junior attorneys into a narrow practice silo, our associate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of matters, clients, and legal issues.
This is a drafting-intensive position. The Junior Associate will be expected to spend a significant portion of their time researching legal issues, analyzing facts and law, and turning that analysis into clear, persuasive written work. The ideal candidate enjoys writing, is comfortable receiving detailed feedback, and wants to become an exceptional legal writer.
Depending on the matter, assignments may include litigation, transactional, advisory, and other legal work across the Firm’s practice areas.
Responsibilities
The Junior Associate’s responsibilities will include:
* Drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, agreements, and other legal documents;
* Conducting substantive legal research and preparing written analyses of complex or unfamiliar legal issues;
* Reviewing and analyzing contracts, records, discovery, and other case materials;
* Assisting with litigation strategy, discovery, depositions, hearings, and trial preparation;
* Drafting and reviewing transactional documents and agreements;
* Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, courts, agencies, and other parties as appropriate;
* Working directly with our senior attorney to develop case and matter strategy;
* Managing deadlines and multiple assignments across different practice areas; and
* Taking increasing ownership of matters as experience and demonstrated ability grow.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is intellectually curious, detail-oriented, dependable, and eager to learn. Because our Firm encounter a wide variety of legal issues, candidates should be comfortable receiving an assignment in an unfamiliar area of law, learning that area quickly, and producing thoughtful work.
Strong writing is particularly important. The successful candidate should be able to organize complicated facts and legal authorities into concise, logical, and persuasive written work.
Candidates should have:
* A J.D. from an accredited law school;
* Admission to the Utah state bar, or eligibility for admission within an acceptable timeframe;
* Strong legal research and writing skills;
* Excellent attention to detail;
* Sound judgment and analytical ability;
* The ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines;
* A willingness to receive and incorporate substantive editing and feedback; and
* A genuine interest in developing experience across multiple areas of law.
Prior experience through a judicial clerkship, law firm, government office, clinic, journal, moot court, or other writing-intensive position is helpful but not required.
Why Ord Firm
We believe junior attorneys develop fastest when they are given meaningful work, substantive feedback, and exposure to different types of legal problems.
At Ord Firm, the Junior Associate will not simply perform one narrow category of work. The position is designed for an attorney who wants to build a broad legal foundation while developing the research, writing, judgment, and practical skills necessary to become a well-rounded lawyer.
For the right candidate, this role offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and grow alongside the Firm.
