Insurance Defense Attorney — Bodily Injury Jobs in Remote at Progressive
The Law Offices of John C. Carlson is seeking to hire an individual who lives in the Santa Barbara area to assist the solo practice with a large personal injury and criminal defense caseload. The ideal candidate will be either a pre-law college student, a law student, or a trained paralegal.
Tasks will include:
– Drafting legal documents such as complaints, arraignments, discovery requests and responses, motions, and restraining orders
– Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda
– Organizing and maintaining case files
– Interacting with clients on the phone and email to obtain case information
– Interacting with courtroom clerks to obtain and submit case information
– E-Filing legal documents with the courthouse
There is currently only one attorney in the firm so there will be frequent interaction, mostly through Zoom meetings, to provide instruction and go over assignments.
Work Schedule and Location
The position will be hybrid remote and in-office, with flexible work hours. The individual will be expected to work an average of 8 to 12 hours per week between 9:00a.m. and 7:00p.m. Monday through Friday. The law practice has two locations, one in San Luis Obispo and the other in Santa Barbara. The managing attorney works mostly at the San Luis Obispo office and the individual will work at the Santa Barbara location located at 1035 Santa Barbara Street, right next to the downtown courthouse.
Duration
Ideally the position will be filled in March 2025, but summer 2025 positions are also available.
Ideally the position will last 6 months to 1 year, but could be longer or shorter depending on various factors.
Compensation will be determined based on skill level
