About us

Ascend Management Services Group provides operational and administrative support to a portfolio of healthcare companies focused on delivering quality care to seniors in skilled nursing facilities across California. We are a growing organization and are looking for an experienced attorney to join our team full time and serve as a trusted legal partner across all of our business operations.

What you will do

This is a broad in-house role supporting multiple operating companies. You will be the primary legal resource for leadership across all entities. Core responsibilities include:

Employment law

HR compliance, employee contracts, wage and hour issues, terminations, and workplace policies under California law across all entities.

Medicare billing and compliance

Advising on Medicare Part A and B billing practices, audits, coverage rules, and regulatory requirements specific to healthcare services in SNF settings.

Tax law

Supporting tax planning and strategy across entities, working alongside our CPA on business tax issues, entity structure, and compliance obligations.

Company structure

Advising on entity structure, operating agreements, equity arrangements, and governance across our portfolio as the organization grows.

Acquisitions

Leading or supporting due diligence, purchase agreements, and integration planning as we evaluate and acquire new companies.

Contracts and agreements

Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with skilled nursing facilities, vendors, and partners across all operating companies.

What we are looking for

JD required. Active California Bar license required. Ideal candidates will bring:

5+ years of legal experience, preferably with healthcare, Medicare, or healthcare services companies

Working knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance

Familiarity with Medicare billing regulations, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines

Experience with M&A, due diligence, or business acquisitions is a plus

Comfortable working across multiple business entities with different legal needs simultaneously

Someone who can give clear, practical guidance that leadership can actually act on.
