J&G Law, LLP, a highly respected multi-service law firm located in Orange County, NY, is seeking a full-time, experienced Legal Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of legal experience, preferably in tax certiorari matters, and must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate must be assertive, confident, and able to maintain professional boundaries while advocating for realistic expectations. Responsibilities:
Provide high-level legal administrative support to attorneys handling litigation, tax certiorari, and related matters.
Maintain and organize case files including petitions, exhibits, appraisals, and correspondence for multiple jurisdictions.
Draft, proofread, and file petitions, stipulations, discovery documents, and settlement agreements related to property tax challenges.
File documents with various courts and track statutory deadlines across multiple municipalities and counties.
Coordinate and track appearance dates, filing deadlines, court conferences, and appraisal submission schedules.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of legal assistant experience, prior exposure to tax certiorari preferred.
Familiarity with New York State real estate tax assessment laws and procedures is a plus.
Proficiency with legal software (e.g., Perfect Law), Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe, and document management systems.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while managing priorities and meeting deadlines.
Confident working with demanding attorneys; must be comfortable speaking up and setting boundaries when needed.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple jurisdictions and large volumes of property-related data.
