About
the Position
The Family Paralegal provides essential administrative, procedural, and litigation support to the legal team. Reporting directly to the lawyers, this position is responsible for managing family law files from intake through resolution while ensuring deadlines, court requirements, and client communications are handled efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting correspondence and legal documents.
- Preparing pleadings, affidavits, and Form 8 Financial Statements.
- Managing incoming correspondence via email, courier, and fax.
- Preparing Lists of Documents, trial binders, chambers binders, and books of authorities.
- Filing court documents and coordinating service, both in person and online.
- Maintaining bring‑forward systems and monitoring critical deadlines.
- Managing lawyers’ calendars, court appearances, and client appointments.
- Coordinating hearings, trials, discoveries, mediations, settlement conferences, and pre‑trial conferences.
- Utilizing Divorce Mate software to prepare family law forms and pleadings.
- Conducting BC Online searches, including corporate, title, and PPSA searches.
- Scheduling judicial case conferences and family case conferences.
- Obtaining records and certificates from government agencies.
- Assisting with file maintenance, organization, and file closures.
The Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Paralegal program.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Paralegal, preferably in family law.
- Solid knowledge of family law procedures and court filing requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Word skills, including styles, multi-level numbering, and cross-references.
- Experience preparing legal pleadings, affidavits, and financial statements.
- Excellent organizational and file management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Divorce Mate software is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Korean or Mandarin is considered a strong asset.
Compensation
- Salary: $70,000 to $95,000, commensurate with experience.
