Job Description:
Shift: First Shift
The primary job duties of this role are to perform routine and complex administrative duties and data support to the Forensic Biology section. The Specialist reviews requests for Forensic Biology testing, corresponds with stakeholders regarding requests for Forensic Biology testing, and utilizes computer software to accept, reject, and initiate testing services. The Triage Specialist will also be responsible for staging forensic evidence received in the section to ensure accuracy and readiness prior to assignment.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
Responds to callers in a courteous manner, providing a correct and timely response when possible, or routing to the appropriate source for a timely and accurate response; ensures more complex issues are resolved in a timely and appropriate manner.
Receives and logs requests for Forensic Biology testing
Reviews evidence received for forensic testing to ensure accuracy and readiness prior to case assignment
Utilize tools for the tracking of calls, emails and other client communication channels
Communications with prosecutors, defense attorneys, and investigators regarding services provided by the Forensic Biology unit via calls, e-mails, etc.
Compiles data for use in a variety of reports, surveys, inventories, studies, etc. • Assist with administrative tasks as needed in the Forensic Biology section.
CODIS Unit Duties
Utilize tools for the tracking of calls, emails and other client communication channels
Manage CODIS unit email bucket, respond/delegate when appropriate, save/store emails in compliance with HFSC records policy
Communication with prosecutors, defense attorneys, investigators, and other CODIS laboratories regarding CODIS match information
Compose, edit and issue CODIS match notification reports utilizing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Compile data associated with CODIS metrics, such as case turnaround time
Assist with administrative tasks as needed
Assist in preparing required monthly reporting of Investigations Aided and Hit Statistics to the Texas State DNA database system (SDIS) and/or the National DNA database system (NDIS)
Administrative Support Duties
Gather and prepare data for periodic grant reporting
Coordinate documentation, approvals, travel arrangements, and reimbursements for grant and non-grant related travel/training
Assist with outsourcing shipment preparation and receiving
Prepare and/or review outsource reports for release to stakeholders
Assist with administrative tasks as needed
Experience and Skills:
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or a related field is required. Relevant work experience performance administrative duties may be considered in lieu of the degree.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
A minimum of 1 year of experience in an administrative role is required. One year’s experience in a law enforcement agency working with case investigations and/or administrative duties is strongly preferred. Experience in a forensic lab environment is a plus.
