About the Role
Wheeler Staffing Partners is hiring a Director, Compliance Research & Academics for our client in Dallas, TX. This individual will be responsible for overseeing compliance programs related to research and academic operations within a large-scale academic medical and research organization. Reporting directly to the VP of Compliance, this role ensures adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations related to research compliance.
The ideal candidate will have extensive academic medical compliance experience, strong auditing/monitoring expertise, and leadership in compliance programs for research and academic environments.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
Develop, implement, and refine compliance policies and procedures for research and academic activities.
Monitor regulatory changes (e.g., NIH, FDA, OHRP, federal/state compliance) and update policies accordingly.
Partner with IRBs, conflict of interest committees, and research oversight groups to ensure compliance in research reviews.
Program Development & Management
Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of research compliance programs.
Manage audits and assessments for research and academic compliance.
Develop metrics to measure compliance effectiveness and improve program oversight.
Training & Education
Deliver compliance training programs for faculty, researchers, and administrative staff.
Serve as a compliance subject matter expert, advising on complex regulatory issues.
Investigations & Policy Enforcement
Oversee investigations into research compliance violations, ensuring appropriate follow-up and corrective actions.
Recommend and implement policy updates, process improvements, and disciplinary measures where necessary.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with academic leaders, department heads, and principal investigators to strengthen compliance efforts.
Work closely with the Chief Compliance Officer, legal counsel, and senior leadership to mitigate high-risk compliance concerns.
Represent the organization to external regulatory bodies, accreditors, and professional organizations.
Qualifications & Required Experience
Master’s Degree required (Health Policy, Business, Healthcare Administration, Accounting/Finance, Law, or a related field).
Seven or more years of experience in compliance, research, or academic operations.
Strong expertise in auditing and monitoring processes in compliance.
Background in academic medical compliance and regulatory research compliance.
Certification preferred: CHRC (Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance) or CHC (Certified in Healthcare Compliance).
Experience working in large, complex regulatory and compliance environments (academic research, IRB oversight, quality assurance).
