The Town of South Kingstown, a diverse coastal community of 30,000 citizens, has an exciting opportunity in the Town Clerk’s Office. The Town is seeking a qualified candidate for a full time Office Clerk in the Town Clerk’s Office. This highly visible position supports the operations of the Town Clerk’s Office, and requires someone with exceptional people skills, the ability to multi-task, and stay organized. This position is responsible for performing varied and routine clerical and administrative duties. This position will be the primary liaison for the Town of South Kingstown’s Municipal Court as well as Housing Court and will be required to assist court operations during some evening hours. This position will also serve as the Town’s Access to Public Records Act (APRA) Coordinator. Duties include receiving members of the public, answering in person and telephone requests for information, preparation and typing of letters, reports, invoices, legal advertisements and other communications as well as filing records, reports and other documents, collecting fines and fees, issuing a variety of municipal permits, licenses, and vital statistics, assisting the public locating records, registering voters, and preparing any related reports. Several different computer programs are used in the department including LL Data Design’s Dog, Vitals, and Probate Programs; Judicial Case Management System (JCMS); New Vision’s Land Evidence Program; OpenGov for business licenses and requests for records; Lynxlog’s Online Mooring’s Program; State of RI Central Voter Registry System (CVRS), Birth Record Program (RIVERS); MUNIS for receipts; and other related software as required.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, and at least one year working in a customer facing, fast paced office environment. Applicants must possess demonstrated strong administrative and organizational skills, strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft products and data entry, be accurate and detail oriented, and strong customer service skills with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of individuals. Previous experience working in a municipal office, ideally the Town Clerk’s Office, preferred but not required.

The starting rate of pay for this 35 hour per week, NEA local SKMEA position is $27.24 per hour, and upon successful completion of the six-month probationary period, increases to $28.02 per hour, and includes a full benefit package.
