GENERAL PURPOSE

The Deputy Court Clerk or Deputy Court Clerk II work performs responsible work in assisting the Court Clerk with the clerical activities and public contacts of the municipal court including responsibilities for the collection of funds and the preparation of documents and records incident to court activity.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from the Judge of the City Court. Direct supervision is received from the Court Clerk.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist the Court Clerk in completion of all clerical activities related to the Court.

· Prepares court dockets and maintains docket files.

· Prepares and keeps court records, and issues bonds, subpoenas, writs, and other court orders as authorized.

· Exercises responsibility for handling and disbursement of bail bonds, court fees, fines, and returns.

· Prepares, distributes, and files arrest warrants, complaints, subpoenas, and other court processes.

· Prepares all reports and documents required to satisfy the decision of the court involving fines, jail sentences, restitution, rehabilitation, etc.

· Maintains communication with the Judge to give and receive information pertaining to continuances, hearings, and the raising or lowering of bail bonds in felony cases.

· Prepares court transcripts of cases appealed to the Circuit Court and bound over to the Grand Jury, and submits transcripts to the Circuit or County Court Clerk’s office.

· The normal working hours for the Deputy Court Clerk II are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, unless the hours are adjusted by the Court Clerk or Judge. Irregular hours are required for Court on Wednesdays and/or for details.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR DEPUTY COURT CLERK I
REQUIRED: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.

PREFERRED: Work experience in complex clerical work including working in a court, law enforcement, or other legal setting.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR DEPUTY COURT CLERK II

REQUIRED: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent; AND a minimum of two years of experience in complex clerical work, including work in a court, law enforcement, or other legal setting.

PREFERRED: Two or more years of experience as a Deputy Court Clerk or equivalent.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; modern office practices and procedures; and standard office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

· Skill in Operating Listed Tools and Equipment.

· Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly.

· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

· Ability to establish successful working relationships.

· Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.

· Ability to work with angry and difficult customers and other members of the public.

· Be able to read and write standard English and the ability to speak English clearly.
