Job Summary

McCranie, Sistrunk, Anzelmo, Hardy, McDaniel & Welch LLC (“the Firm”) is a small litigation firm that services clients primarily in the Gulf South. Its attorneys defend various clients with litigation needs that run the gamut of civil liability theories. The position of Litigation Attorney requires exceptional research, writing, and communication skills. The Litigation Attorney will develop and maintain relationships with the Firm’s clients, provide counsel, assist clients in understanding and appreciating their legal options thoroughly, and represent clients in court proceedings and negotiations. The Litigation Attorney will also conduct research (using online legal resources such as Westlaw), read and interpret the law, extrapolate and apply legal analysis to specific factual issues, prepare legal pleadings and documents, and perform other duties to ensure that the Firm’s clients receive the best and most cost-effective legal services.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities:

 Communicate with clients (verbally and in writing) to learn about their legal needs and concerns and provide them with legal strategies and advice

 Research and develop legal arguments and strategies to best represent clients in all manner of civil legal proceedings

 Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, contracts, accurately and on time

 Analyze legal documents and briefs, ensuring accurate statement and depiction of facts, case law, and precedent

 Draft various types of correspondences and reports

 Lead negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and other meetings as required

 Maintain exhibits, preparing and organizing different kinds of tangible evidence as needed for court appearances

 Stay informed about current legislation and recent case law, especially concerning applicable legal specialties

 Stay informed and evolve with the Firm from the standpoint of technology used for case management and firm operation

 Develop strategies to resolve legal issues and cases favorably and cost-effectively for clients

 Attend and represent clients at depositions, hearings, and trials, including the ability to develop and make arguments, objections, opening and closing statements, and examine/ cross-examine witnesses.

 Explain legal options to clients and bring possible outcomes and risks to their attention

 Build relationships with clients based on trust

 Meet firm budgetary requirements

 Work with and supervise, where appropriate, Firm employees in furtherance of the Firm’s clients’ work and expectation

 Be a ‘team player’ and not be disruptive to Firm morale, or operation

Attorney Requirements:

 Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school

 Admission to the bar and all courts in Louisiana

 Commitment to abiding by local, state, and federal laws and behaving ethically

 Ability to work independently or with a team of attorneys to develop case strategies

 Ability to supervise attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants

 Superior research and analytical skills

 Superior critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, public speaking skills

 Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively

 Adaptability and attention to detail

 Ability to work long, unpredictable hours under mentally stressful conditions

 Ability to manage time and meet deadlines set by outside sources

 Ability to work in an office environment

 Ability to sit/stand at a desk and work on computer for prolonged periods

Finally, the ability to discern what is in the best interest of the client.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $105,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year
