Position Overview
Under the overall direction of the County Attorney and immediate supervision by the Chief Deputy County Attorney, provides professional legal services of considerable difficulty and handles other legal duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Initiate and engage in criminal prosecution and/or civil litigation, including investigating facts, analyzing information, planning trial strategies, consulting with parties, interviewing witnesses, and negotiating resolutions before trial.
Conduct criminal and civil trials on behalf of the County Attorney and represent the office at administrative and other hearings.
Advise law enforcement agencies on criminal matters.
Perform legal research and draft, review, and prepare legal documents such as motions, pleadings, petitions, opinions, and demands.
Draft, review, and prepare appeals and post-conviction relief proceedings.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, administrative rules, rules of evidence, criminal procedures, and office policies.
Exercise discretion and authority in decision-making, negotiations, and resolving litigation.
Maintain a case management system using electronic software to handle cases, meet deadlines, and prepare for proceedings, hearings, and trials.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Juris Doctorate
Admission to the State Bar of Arizona
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant legal experience
Pass a background investigation

Legal procedures, court decisions, and rules of evidence
Legal research principles and practices
Legal and professional ethics

Legal analysis, research, and writing
Interviewing witnesses
