Summary of Responsibilities:
This position performs a variety of court reporting duties for the County Court at Law and is responsible for creating court records by taking and preserving a verbatim record of Judicial court proceedings. As a court coordinator, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, docket management, court staff coordination, managing court activities, and acts as a liaison for the court.

Performs court reporting activities in the assigned courtroom or off-site hearing location, including but not limited to creating and preserving verbatim records of civil and misdemeanor County Court at Law proceedings; and produces an accurate Reporter’s Record, in printed and/or electronic format
Responsible for docket and trial management
Prepares and maintains transcripts, records, reports and written notices and distributes as appropriate
Coordinates activities of other court staff and acts as a liaison to other departments
Ensures completion of required Continuing Education
Abide by the Code of Judicial Conduct
Performs other job related duties as directed by the Judge
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of court proceedings and procedures
Knowledge of court reporting procedures
Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
Skilled in taking and transcribing shorthand notation into regular records of court proceedings
Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written
Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines, fulfilling scheduling requirements, simultaneously handling of multiple projects, disruptions, and dealing with concerns of citizens and employees
Ability to perform the essential responsibilities and functions satisfactorily
Must be comfortable working inside a courtroom and being around offenders
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
One year of office experience
Successful completion of a court reporting education program
Basic knowledge of computers including Microsoft Word and Excel
Must wear business attire when Court is in session
Licensing:
Must possess a current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license including a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education (including 2 hours in Ethics/Rules) every 2 years as required to maintain license; Membership in the National Court Reporter’s Association and the Texas Court Reporter’s Association is preferred
