By joining the Division of Driver Licensing as a Transportation Hearing Officer in Boone County, you will have the opportunity to conduct informal hearings to determine whether an individual’s driving privilege is to be suspended, probated, or other action taken under KRS Chapter 186 and related statutes and regulations.

Holders of the Transportation Hearing Officer position will complete tasks such as:
Conducts informal hearings for individuals who are convicted of accumulation 12 or more points either racing or speeding 26 miles per hour or more over the given limit. Places the individual on probation or suspends the driver’s license. Testifies in court as a Record Custodian when subpoena on behalf of Driver Licensing.
Researches, reviews, performs, interprets and applies laws, rules, regulations, departmental policies and procedures in determining a drivers eligibility utilizing KDLIS (KY Driver License Information System), and processes and/or collects fees for individuals applying for an ID or driver’s license, Traffic School, Ignition Interlock Device, Alcohol Treatment completions and Commercial Driver License (CDL).
Reviews all Non-US citizen documents, verifies and determines eligibility for ID/driver’s license. Processes applications in SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) and processes credentials through KDLIS.
Prepares and submits daily activity reports, receipts for fees collected, reinstatement and authorization letter and other operation records and reports. Assist with reconciliation of daily monies collected. May supervise in the absence of supervisor.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
The ability to interpret records in KDLIS and process credentials.
Learn laws and statutes that are required to administer credentials.
How to properly hold hearings in a legal and just manner.
Collect driver licensing fees, reconcile, and create daily reports.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
Experience with Hearings, Court, and identity verification.
Experience with collecting money and providing a service.
Experience with record analysis and data management in processing systems.
Experience providing professional customer service and training to subordinates.
Additional position information: Minimal standing, stooping, bending, and lifting involved and some travel required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of administrative, research, law enforcement and/or investigative experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Completion of a bachelor’s in law will substitute for the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, law enforcement, research and/or investigative experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title generally perform work in an office or court setting. Some travel required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
