Midkiff, Muncie & Ross, P.C. is seeking a workers’ compensation defense attorney in either its Roanoke, VA or Bristol, TN offices. The ideal candidate has experience in workers’ compensation defense with depositions, motions, adjusters and clients, and defense work in workers compensation matters. The role is growth-oriented, with the opportunity to handle all phases of litigation.
Job Description
- Represent employers and insurance carriers in workers’’ compensation litigation from case inception through resolution
- Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
- Manage mediations, conduct depositions of claimants, witnesses, and medical experts
- Prepare for and appear at hearings, trials, and settlement conferences before workers’ compensation boards and authorities
- Analyze claims exposure, evaluate medical and legal issues, and develop cost-effective defense strategies
- Collaborate with clients, adjusters, and medical professionals to assess risk, liability, and settlement posture
- Manage an active caseload, including case analysis, compliance with statutory deadlines, and litigation strategy
- Accurately track and manage billable hours in accordance with firm policies, client guidelines, and industry standards
How to Succeed in this Role
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the Virginia Bar or current plans to take the Virginia Bar.
- 1-5 years of experience in workers’ compensation defense
- Experience taking depositions, drafting and arguing pretrial motions, working with expert witnesses, and appearing at hearings
- Strong academic background with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Effective legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Team-oriented with the ability to manage deadlines and responsibilities independently

Pay: $85,000.00 – $115,000.00 per year
