Special Program Clerk, Food Court
6 hours per day, 9 months per year

The Special Program Clerk is responsible for managing student interns on a daily basis in the food court, making sure the students are learning from the food court staff, and performing tasks as needed to support the food court vision.
The Work-Based Learning Coordinator is the official teacher of record for all the student interns. The Special Program Clerk will work with the Coordinator to assist in the developing of training plans for each student intern. The Special Program Clerk will monitor student learning and progress toward achieving what is outlined on the training plans. The entire Food Court Team, all staff and students work together in making joint decisions and menus, how the food is presented and served.
Qualifications:
Possess a high school degree or comparable equivalent
Minimum of two (2) years work experience in instructing others in food preparation and kitchen management which demonstrates ability to work independently, with a minimum of supervision, and function in a dynamic, fast-paced, continually changing environment with frequent interruptions, OR
Documentation verifying an Associate’s degree or credits from an accredited university, college, community college, or business school may be used to fulfill or help fulfill the two (2) years of job-related experience. Ninety (90) quarter or sixty (60) semester credits are equivalent to two full years of job-related experience.
Recency (prior 10 years) and substance of work experience will be considered in determining applicant qualifications
Experience which demonstrates a high level of attention to, and management of, detailed information
Possess skill in working with numbers, mathematical computations, and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) preferred
Possess current Food Handler’s permit
Possess current First Aid/CPR certification
Experience using Point of Sales (POS) equipment preferred
Experience which demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and skills in working effectively in a team environment, providing support to achieve the desired goal(s) for the classroom and/or program area
Successful experience as part of an educational team preferred
Possess excellent problem solving, analytical, and conflict resolution skills and ability to think quickly
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work standing up for most of the work day
Ability to safely lift and move packages of food and cooking equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, using assistance or mechanical aid when appropriate
Ability to move around in crowded kitchen areas and to work at standard kitchen counters
Ability to see well enough to operate kitchen equipment and to read paperwork
Demonstrated leadership ability
Ability to advance and adapt with technological changes and work with program applications
Ability to effectively communicate with and appreciate individuals from diverse, socio-economic backgrounds
Ability to be flexible with assigned tasks and schedules
Ability to observe the behavior of students, both visually and by listening
Other Requirements:
Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
Enthusiasm for and commitment to working with high school age students from diverse backgrounds
Essential Functions:

Schedule, train, and assign duties for student interns
Monitor student attendance, progress, and coordinate evaluations and grades with the teacher of record
Ensure students maintain sanitation standards and correct work procedures by obtaining a Food Handler’s Permit
Act as a liaison between food court staff and student interns
Coordinate as a team member the planning of menus, production and serving of food
Coordinate, plan, and cater food for special school events as a student leadership activity
Coordinate student learning with the culinary arts instructors
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by administrator in alignment with their job classification
Benefits/Compensation:
Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement.
Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. .
Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. .
